Boating can be an adventurous family pastime. Boating is also one of the many ways to enjoy hobbies such as fishing and water skiing. With boating comes challenges to remain safe out on the open water. Boating is equivalent to driving. You have to be aware of other boaters, passengers and there are some things that should not be done while boating. Alcohol should be avoided because it can impair the driver. There are dangers that can be avoided by just having the proper safety gear aboard the boat. There are also hidden or forgotten dangers that boaters should be aware of such as the weather and power lines. You cannot control the weather, but you can be aware of the effect the weather may have. Avoid touching power lines with your mast because this can result in electrocution. Enjoy boating but do not underestimate the importance of safety.
